Fast-paced, skill-driven, and deeply rooted in tradition, Badminton continues to be one of the most popular sporting activities at The Poona Club Ltd. The younger generation of the Club, along with seasoned players, appreciates the exceptional quality of our wooden badminton courts — where agility, precision, and competitive spirit come alive every day.
Interestingly, the origins of modern Badminton can be traced back to India. In the mid-19th century, a game known as “Poona” emerged, closely resembling the sport as it is played today. Initially played using balls of wool in windy or wet conditions — a variation known as Ball Badminton — the game gradually evolved with the introduction of the shuttlecock. Retired British officers later carried the sport back to England, where formal rules were established and the modern game took shape. This rich historical connection makes Badminton especially meaningful within the legacy of The Poona Club Ltd.
